Spring Forward (Day 189)

We missed church today because my mom forgot about the spring forward thingy, which was totally fine with me. I got to sleep in for an extra hour today before I had to get up, do laundry, strip my bed, start homework, and catch up on my week of blogs. I seem to have the same routine every Sunday, but that is okay with me because I always feel great Monday morning when everything is ready. I am on this last blog and it is 4:45 which is good because it is still kind of early. Hopefully, I can get i-tunes tonight as a prize for doing all of the work. I’m watching The Mysteries of Alfred Hedgehog because there is NOTHING else on. That’s the only problem with Sundays…I have to watch like Rescue Heroes and such on the Qubo channel. But I really like when The Magic School Bus comes on. And we get an extra hour of daylight J

Hibachi grill (Day 188)

I had to pick up the yard, take out the trash, do laundry, and vacuum today before I could go to Hibachi grill with Mr. Hemler, his son Chris, Kalyn, Zakira, Jervonne, Mr. Hammer and his wife, Michael, other Chris, and Deon. It was a lot of fun because we got to see everyone the last time before we all go off to college and Mr. Hemler has to find a whole bunch of new aides for the bowling team. I would totally do that if I wasn’t graduating. It was a really fun 4 years and it went by really fast. Freshman year it was just me, Angela, and Jervonne and the CLS kids, and then Angela left and Kalyn and Zakira came. And this year, we had Christina and Brooke which was cool. We were all seniors except for Aaron who will be all alone for the next 2 years. J

Kennedy's house (Day 187)

So after tennis today, I went to Kennedy’s house and then went to dinner with her family. It was fun because he two little brothers, Isaac and Thomas would annoy her and she would get mad and yell at them. I think that’s funny because I do not have any brother and it was funny to see someone other than Nick bug her. I got to meet her Aunt Jane, and spent more time with her mom and dad and brothers. We talked about AVID and Prom and life…it was fun. It was fun hanging out with someone’s family other than mine because mine can be really boring sometimes and my sister never really visits unless it is some kind of holiday or special occasion.

Dona...(Day 186)

“Defeat may test you; it need not stop you.” Dona you are the reason that many of us have remained in AVID. You are AVID. You represent everything good at New Town and it would be the end of AVID if you walked out. You said that you lost your desire to teach, but your students have not lost their desire to learn from you. The person that stole from you made a mistake and I am assuming didn’t know you very well. You are an amazing person and every single person in AVID 12 and your other classes love you. We have basically grown up together with you and we know you could never truly walk away from AVID, no matter how bad you feel. My parents used to tell me in my worst days, “I love you no matter what.” And “Keep moving forward.” Our challenges are what define us and no matter how bad it seems at the time, you will keep going because you are strong and have the support of your AVID family behind you. “Never give up on something that you can’t go a day without thinking about.”

McDaniel and Salisbury! (Day 185)

Scholarships are really hard to find…just saying. I have spent every time I have had on the computer looking for scholarships, but none of them are available to me. I have to be majoring in engineering or have some super financial need. And it’s bad because I don’t qualify for any financial need because my parents make money, but aren’t paying for any of my college. And of course, schools aren’t giving me any money. The only school so far that has offered me any money is $2000 a year from Salisbury and a onetime $3000 from Drexel + $1000 for doing the FAFSA before the deadine. Ugh. College is really complicated and I really don’t know where I want to go anymore. But I got into McDaniel :)

And it begins...(Day 184)

I am feeling like this tennis season is going to be really good but also really challenging. The boys side is looking really good with the new kids like Nick and Jason and Khalil, but the girls side seems a little lacking. I had to explain the rules of tennis to a freshman the other day and she questioned absolutely EVERYTHING. And then didn’t understand. For example, I explained the lines in reference to the rules and she was like, “if I play singles can I use the double line?” so I said no because the DOUBLE line is for DOUBLES players and the SINGLE line is for SINGLES players. And then she was like, “well I think I am going to play singles and use the doubles line.” To which I responded, “that would get you kicked out of the game and I don’t think you will be playing singles because the people from last year already have those spots.” And then she was like, “no, that spot is mine.” And I left her alone because firstly, there are 2 single spots and she doesn’t know that and secondly, she isn’t getting them-they belong to me and Kim.

Banks (Day 183)

We talked a lot about banks today. Like in E.P.I, we compared the different types of banks and financial institutions. The 5 are Brokerage firms, Credit Unions, Insurance Institutions, Savings and Loan, and Savings. Then for homework we have to go deeper into one of the ones on the list and write down benefits and interest rates and if they have fees…etc. I will most likely choose the Credit Union because I am part of one thanks to my parents and I think that would be easier to find information on. Since not everyone gets in, I think they have more benefits for their members.

Pop Pop (Day 182)

Today we went up to Pennsylvania to see my Pop Pop who is currently in rehab after getting out of the hospital. This way, he is taken care of and my Nana can have time to relax and not worry about who is caring for him and know he is close. It is a really nice place and I was able to get all of my AP Chemistry homework done as well as studying for our quiz tomorrow in AP Calculus L. And we also got to go to Subway for dinner before my parents dropped me off at JAM. It was a good day but I wish Pop Pop was out of the hospital and better again so that we would be happy and Nana wouldn’t be stressed.

Poetry Out Loud (Day 181)

Kimberly, you are a winner in my book. Those judges made a mistake in not choosing you as the winner after your first poem. It was absolutely incredible and I was proud of you! Gosh, that’s so mushy. But nonetheless, I thought you made New Town look awesome and for that, you won. I would like to believe that you were so good you came in 0 place-even before first place. You were so good they thought you were a professional and therefore had to disqualify you because it wouldn’t have been fair to the other students. So I’m sorry that you didn’t place, but you beat thousands of other kids in Maryland and Baltimore County including me and everyone else at New Town. And I think I still owe you a cake…J

Scholarships (Day 180)

Scholarship for Dona? Sent! Joe A. Harriston scholarship? Mailed! This is a really good day for me. I was kind of disappointed to know that I haven’t gotten a single scholarship yet. And I see that other kids in my class have and it just makes me feel like I guess I didn’t try as hard as I could in the past 4 years. But I mean I have never been a slacker, but I haven’t worked as hard as I think I could have. My mom always says that I could have easily gotten straight As. But I disagree. School comes easily to me, but I do work to get the grades that I get and I kind of expected at least a little bit of scholarship money to help pay for college. If I don’t get any scholarships, I will either go to Towson, Salisbury, or UMBC. Probably Salisbury, but it all depends on how much their tuition it. St. Mary’s is also dependent upon how much they pay me to go to their college, and it looks like nothing at this point. (If I even get in…) And thank you AVID for writing beautiful notes for the soldiers. The boxes will be mailed tomorrow and I know that they will appreciate everything that they have gotten, including the letters.

TENNIS (Day 179)

YAY TENNIS! J I am so excited for this season. I think it’s gonna be an incredible season and I HAVE TO make it to regionals or I am going to be very sad. This entire sports season has been good and now I have to play an individual sport, which can be good and bad at the same time. I mean if I win, it’s all on me and my great ability J but if I lose, it’s on me and I can’t blame it on anybody but myself which is not going to be good if I lose. Today I played with this new girl to kind of see the level on which she plays and she legit told me, “This isn’t anything like Wii tennis! This is hard.” I didn’t even know what to say. I wanted to tell her that if she thought real sports were like the Wii than she shouldn’t try out for anything, but I didn’t because I am a really nice person. *Smug face* Who knows? Maybe she will become the next Serena Williams…

Leap Day (Day 178)

Happy Birthday Ms. Owens! J And happy leap day! I really hate leap day though. By the middle of February, I wish it would just be warm and spring again, but we have to suffer through another day of February. I just can’t wait until tomorrow because TENNIS STARTS. And clearly I am very excited. I have been waiting since the summer to play for New Town because it is my absolute favorite sport to play. Anyway, we have a test in Human Geo on Friday so I think I should go learn about Asia and Australia before I fail the test. But I also have to do all of the notecards for English and Geo that I haven’t finished yet.

Black History Month Assembly (Day 177)

We had the black history month assembly today and I think that it went really well even though it was our first assembly ever. The students in the audience even paid attention and laughed when they were supposed to. And I was super proud of myself and Jalinh when we hit Mrs. Harris with the supersoakers. I swear I thought I was going to miss and be really upset, but I didn’t! And let me tell you…that supersoaker was extremely powerful. I was afraid that if I missed I would blind her. But thankfully Jalinh and I both hit her (even though Jalinh got me as well J) and the entire assembly went smoothly, minus the problems with the lights and sound and timing. I learned a lot more about black history than I knew before including the invention of ice cream, the type writer, the egg beater, the fire extinguisher, and the lawn mower. I hope the students learned a lot as well and I hope that we can have another one, even though I won’t be there.

Everything done (Day 176)

I love waking up Monday morning with everything done. It is an awesome feeling having my room cleaned, all of my blogs caught up, and all of my homework done. But I hate Saturdays because I have to do everything all over again. I mean Sunday nights are the best because I can just lay in bed watching The Closer and know that I am caught up, my homework is all done, and I can get up in the morning and relax and not try to hunt for things. I even vacuumed the entire house, emptied the trash for tomorrow, fed the birds, and picked up the yard. Yay cleanliness! J
